Labour shadow minister attacks reshuffle women

17 July 2014

There’s something wonderfully ironic about a Labour party that boasts about decency in politics yet has a frontbencher who tweets things like this:

Bravo to Helen Goodman, Labour’s Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Minister, who would be furiously demanding an apology from the Conservatives for a similar tweet.

A Labour party that boasts about decency in politics?

What, like the decency that began with the slogan “An End to Sleaze” and
resulted in the most corrupt, incompetent Government in Britain’s history?
A Government whose hypocrites not only lied to us all, ‘habitually’ as they troughed
but a Government that now has MP’s serving prison sentences with several more wondering when their axe will fall.

It’s a sound analysis. This is a PR reshuffle. These appointments have been made for reasons other than ability. I find it staggering that Cameron hasn’t been savaged for using polling amongst teachers as the reason Gove was humiliated. Weak, vacuous leadership from a second hand car salesman.

  • sunnydayrider

Stop getting at poor Ms Goodman. There are people, one in our house, who think she’s rather dishy. If I can find his lead it’s time for his walk

  • global city

Nick Clegg is up to his treachery again

Why this is not on the front page of every newspaper is beyond me.

Come on Speccie, investigate this little creep and his eurofanaticism.

  • Liz

This stupid rag started all this. Incapable of imagining women might succeed on the basis of their ability rather than blowing somebody.

    • Wessex Man

Oh come now Liz this woman constantly never manages to live up to her own low standards and Holly is exactly right!

      • Makroon

What is Hardman’s excuse for having a cheap pop at the promoted women ? The green-eyed monster ?

  • DWWolds

Sour grapes from a sour woman!

  • BarkingAtTreehuggers

These older women, are they all Jenny Jones types?
We must watch what they come out with next.

  • Gizzard Puke

No I’d never heard of her either!

  • Colonel Mustard

She is the precise opposite of her surname.

  • alabenn

She does not have to worry about being voted out for stupidity, the people of Bishop Auckland are not the brightest buttons in the box, some are still looking for the caves she mentioned at the village fair.

  • itdoesntaddup

The tweet has produced howls of twitter faux outrage from the usual suspects like Mensch (O Mensch, bewein dein Sünde gross), and even Women’s minister Nikki Morgan. Meantime, Goodman has apologised and claimed it was only a light hearted joke….

    The parody is complete.

    • Inverted Meniscus

Helen Goodman adds weak kneed cowardice to hypocrisy then. What a nasty little scumbag she is.

    • Colonel Mustard

Believe me it does add up.

  • Wessex Man

Well I think I would pass away with the vapours if she tried to spin me but our Esther, well, I might do so again but with a grin on my face.

  • Smithersjones2013

So the product of an all woman shortlist (does anyone find the irony in such a phrase) sneers about women who’ve made it without such bigoted privilege. Tokenism or not none, of the Tory promotees are the product of patronising gender bigotry….

    • realfish

How has he shot himself in the foot?
In one breath you seem to be saying (rightly) that these Tory women have made it on merit (and as such are not the window dressing that Labour indulge in)…and in the next, they’ve not.
      What’s your point?

      • Smithersjones2013

Cameron backed “voluntary” all women shortlists for the Tory Party in the last week. Do keep up…..

Putting aside that they were promoted apparently primarily because of their gender (there is no indication that they are the best people for the job from the spin) whether these women made it to Westminster on merit or not is now moot because Cameron is superceding and undermining the process by which they were selected by.

  • Inverted Meniscus

Labour the party of lies, lying , liars, failure, mediocrity and hypocrisy. Helen Goodman, what a sanctimonious, hypocritical scumbag.

    • Holly

We’ll have less of the ‘scum’ thank you very much.

  • RavenRandom

Female solidarity at its best. Labour really are a bunch of hypocrites.

  • Emulous

    Look at the picture.
And then look at the big 3 ladies with legs from Tuesday and ask yourself who is more likely to attract your vote.

  • Tony_E

Is it just me, or am I the only one who has never heard of Helen Goodman MP? Not a very media savvy shadow Culture Media and Sport minister…..

    • Emulous

This from the Labour House Journal El Graun:

“Go on, admit it. We’ve all done it. We’ve all embarrassed ourselves by getting place names muddled up or (far worse) confused an offspring’s current partner with the previous one. But it’s much more serious for a public figure, especially one dependent on votes where the gaffe was committed. Hi there Labour MP Helen Goodman, yes, it’s you we’re all talking about today.

In case you’re so busy with the day job or Wayne Rooney’s fitness regime that you haven’t noticed, Goodman is the MP who opened the Ingleton village fair in her Bishop Auckland, County Durham constituency and spoke movingly of its limestone caves and waterfalls, its links with Sherlock Holmes. Unfortunately, she (or perhaps her researcher) seems to have Googled Ingleton’s namesake 70 miles away in North Yorkshire.”

    • Smithersjones2013

Which is probably why she has to resort to childish antics like this

      • Inverted Meniscus

Yes she is a little known Labour scumbag.

  • TJB

It would of course be wrong for me to say that she doesn’t even have that going for her.

    • Bill McInroy

Yes, that would be terribly wrong, wouldn’t it.

      • Wessex Man

        no it wouldn’t!

        • Bill McInroy

Perhaps I should have deployed an ironic smiley face…..

          • Wessex Man

perhaps I should have I was agreeing with you!

    • Holly

      Female, honest, solidarity at work….
She looks NOTHING like this picture when droning on in the HoC…..

Last week, there was one female Labour hag, who looked like she was in the process of getting dressed. Her cardigan was falling off her shoulder….

Some females on the Labour side must never watch themselves, because if they did they would STOP dying their hair!…IT IS MAKING THEM BALD!

      • TJB

I watch a fair bit of the debates in HoC and you can always tell, even if you didn’t know who was speaking anyway, when a female Labour politician starts to speak. They alone manage to combine whiney, patronising, holier than thou, better than you, more caring than you and more down to earthy than you sneery noises all at the same time. It’s like listening to a caricature of the vicar’s wife from the Simpsons constantly shrieking “won’t somebody think of the children” regardless of what particular thing it is they’re moaning about at the time.

Oh and you can tell they’re sincere too as they usually manage to tilt their heads to one side just to prove how sincere they are.

        • Holly

          Don’t forget their ‘furrowed’ brow.

Coop and her ‘urgent questions’ keep letting May outshine her in every respect……. again.
