Life imitates art as Game of Thrones returns to our screens

24 March 2014

The last season of Game of Thrones ended while a rough and ready rabble from north of ‘the wall’ were preparing to make life difficult for the establishment down south in King’s Landing. Ahead of the fourth season premier, one of these northern wildlings, Ygritte (AKA Scottish actress Rose Leslie), has told the forthcoming issue of Spectator Life:
‘If we are going to be dictated to by anyone, I would prefer it to be Westminster rather than Brussels.’
Quite right,  and what a refreshing measure of Euroscepticism and pro-Unionism.
Fans of HBO’s epic adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s novels have pointed out that Leslie needs to take this debate onto Channel Four News so that she can drop her character’s most famous phrase: ‘You know nothing, Jon Snow’.
Without meaning to spoil season four of Game of Thrones, can a band of angry wildings really defeat the mighty Lords of Westeros in the field of battle? Insert your own SNP/Ukip metaphors here.

“Insert your own SNP/Ukip metaphors here.”

Hmm. What if the wildlings are Scottish Labour, coming down from beyond the wall to join with their brethren in the North (of England) and provide a majority for a Labour government of Wester…er, at Westminster?

Game of Thrones had some hot lesbo scenes, other than that it’s rubbish

    • Gareth Milner

      I disagree completely.

      • Ed LoveNest

True, even the lesbo scenes were rubbish

I cannot understand why people are so rabid over Game of thrones, I’d much rather see and adaptation of the
Elric of Melniboné stories or the “First Law” series by Joe Abercrombie, GoT gets by simply on shock value.
The Black Company and Malazan Book of the Fallen Series’ would make A song of ice and fire but a distant memory if adapted.
