David Cameron and Nick Clegg move like sharks to keep the coalition going

11 July 2013

If a shark stops moving it dies. In the Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister’s office, they believe that the same applies to the coalition. Their view is that if it is going to make it to 2015, it needs to be doing things right up until parliament is dissolved and the election called.

To this end, as I reveal in the column this week, they’ve commissioned Oliver Letwin, David Laws and Jo Johnson to sit down and see what else the coalition can do between now and 2015. One of those involved in the talks says ‘we’re pretty confident we can still do deals on various things.’

The hope is that a few more big policy initiatives will act as a counterweight to the temptation for the coalition parties to pull apart as the election approaches. I’m told that the question of what new policy areas to look at will be a subject of a meeting of the Prime Minister and deputy Prime Minister’s key advisers in the next few days.

If they got us out of the EU they wouldn’t have to scratch around for something to do… they could be RUNNING THE COUNTRY!

Just what we need; more fatuous policy initiatives, more legislation, more regulation, more policy uncertainty for business and individuals, more taxpayers money flushed down the drain. Can’t these people stop spending our money on controlling our lives for 5 minutes?

if Mr Shiny was serious about renegotiating with Europe they would have more than enough to do. That on it’s own is a big enough project to keep serious politicians busy for years in preparation for a properly managed disengagement – if, that is, he was serious about it. As for meneer Clogg he could dream up some more crowd pleasing initiatives like free New Year flights for Romanians.

Same old same old; if if if if, thats all you have when your little prejudiced world implodes.

Doesn’t your pipe need refilling old chap?

Now you mention it Vicars Boy one of the better ideas for a policy initiative would be a specific effort in Bucharest and Sofia to get the best brains coming to the UK next January before France and Germany snap them up

      • Hexhamgeezer

        Oh my aching sides.

      • David B

I take you believe people educated here under the labour education system of 1997 to 2010 are not education to a high enough standard. If the were we would not need to import their best brains

Doing things…And they don’t even know what they want to do; they have to look at ‘new policy areas’ so nhat they can DO THINGS.
This is the motivation of almost everybody who seeks political power, they want to do things when the best course of action would be for them to do as little as possible.

  • MirthaTidville

Of course they want to keep this Liberal movement going….They both think exactly alike

(Warning: pompous, know-it-all-bore moment coming up.)

James, only about two dozen of the 400 identified shark species are required to maintain a forward swimming motion.

The coalition is doing just fine as far as increasing the support for Scottish independence is concerned.
    Keep up the good work,chaps!

Seeking to exploit shale you mean? Just as the oil runs out? Any thoughts on the Schengen Agreement?

  • HookesLaw

Really this is standard practice for a government in the last two years, nothing particular to do with the coalition. All Govts want to be seen to be ding something and not labelled lame ducks. Its part of politics.

Cameron is VERY shiny isn’t he?

Well, actually, I wasn’t thinking about comparing these 2 to sharks, but rather to other oceanic lifeforms, like, say, a jellyfish. You know, as in they drift along, with nary a brain cell or a backbone between them, until one day they get caught up in the wrong current and are bashed up on the rocks to dry up and blow away, forgotten forever.

    • telemachus

Do not make the mistake of writing these two off
Do not let your guard down for a second
It is a fight to the death
We need a pincer action of the forces of reason and UKIP to deliver the landslide
      Be ever vigilant

      • Andy

You going to die ? How sad.

        • telemachus

Even in this wicked world the forces of reason will triumph

          • Andy

So you’ll be dead soon then ?
